Photos of the Beatles in concert just before Beatlemania

Date: 25th April 1963
Venue: Fairfield Halls, Croydon, South London

The members of this audience seem particularly staid, sitting politely with legs crossed and, in some cases, with rather bored expressions on their faces.

A few months later, girl fans would be screaming in the aisles and crying hysterically as Beatlemania took its grip.

They've just released their debut album on 22nd March 1963, and their 4th single From Me To You 2 weeks earlier, which became their first UK number 1 single, but failed to make any impact in the US.

About 4 months later, they'd release their 5th single "She Loves You", their best-selling single ever, their first song to be heard by many Americans, topping both sides of the Atlantic, and Beatlemania was born.

  1. Damn! Looks more like a lecture hall than a concert!
