Xu Zhang (some other newsreport says Xu Zhangshi), 97 takes care of her paralyzed son, Xu Quanyi, 59, her youngest offspring, in their simple home in Bozhou, Anhui province, China. She has 6 other children: 5 daughters and another son. About 40 years earlier, the son, then 20 years old, became mentally ill, and starting 1992 was confined to bed and became unable to speak due to an unreported condition.
It was then that Zhang started to take care of him all by herself. Life is indeed hard, and when people come to offer her some money, she always smiles, saying "all good people are blessed".
Zhang has turned down a 100,000 yuan (USD15,700) donation offer from a businessman in Shanghai. She lives on a 340 yuan (USD53 - about RM150) subsidy every month.
