- in late August 2012, the song jumped up by 8 spots on the weekly Billboard Social 50, beating Taylor Swift to take the number one position, a feat achieved by only 9 others before, including Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Adele.
- while K-Pop has been gaining in international popularity over the past few years, until this song came about, it is still uncommon for K-Pop songs to be featured, much less, raved about, by international media. This song has trumped all K-Pop songs before it, for it has been covered by the world's top news companies like the CNN, The Wall Street Journal, ABC News, USA Today, CNBC, Bloomberg, ESPN, BBC, Der Spiegel, TIME, even Jay Leno.
- it's currently the world's most popular music video, beating even the likes of Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen.
- it's the most viewed K-pop youtube video of all time, overtaking Girl's Generation's Gee (which has 84+ million views) on 1st September. Amazingly, it was reported that most of the views came from the USA (47%), and only 4% from South Korea itself.
