Yohan Blake (born December 1989), the current 100 metre World Champion is the youngest man to have broken the 10-second barrier (at 19 years+ old)
At the 2011 Brussels IAAF Diamond League meet on 16th September 2011, he astounded everybody by winning the 200m in 19.26 seconds, the second fastest of all time. It improved on his personal best by an incredible 0.52s - his previous PB was 19.78 seconds set in 2010.
His time eclipsed Usain Bolt's season best of 19.40 set in the recently concluded athletics world championships in Daegu.
Someone commented:
Considering that Blake ran out of lane seven, I can surely state that Blake could set a new world record if he had ran out of lane four or five. The "Beast" Yohan Blake’s reaction time was 0.269. He could have afforded to be 0.16 quicker out of the blocks, which would have resulted in a time of 19.10, smashing Bolt’s 19.19 world record.
By all measures, it was a fast race. Second placed Walter Dix (USA) clocked 19.53s, which would have been enough to win most 200m races held anywhere in the world. The 3rd and 4th placed sprinters also broke the 20 second barrier.
Usain Bolt, who competed in the 100m in the same meet, commented:
That's amazing for me. I'm shocked he did so well. I've seen him run a couple of 200m and he's run them badly. I told him to take it easy round the bend. He ran a wild time.
Unsurprisingly, he added that he will not give Blake any more running tips from now on.
A stunned Bolt congratulated Blake right after the race. A few minutes earlier Bolt had won the 100m in a season best 9.76s
