Obama’s Silicon Valley “Tech Supper”, 17th February 2011

Private dinner with President Obama, the US tech get-together.

Host: venture capitalist John Doerr (his home)
Length: more than 2 hours

Purpose: discussing technological innovation and how it could possibly boost the US economy, including Obama's proposals to spend on research and development and to expand incentives for companies to grow and hire. The president also talked about his goal of doubling exports within five years to help create jobs, his plans for spending on education and a new initiative to support small business and start-up companies.

12 of the USA's tech leaders were invited, including:

- Steve Jobs, Apple CEO
- Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO
- Larry Ellison, Oracle CEO
- Eric Schmidt, outgoing Google CEO
- Carol Bartz, Yahoo! CEO
- John Chambers, Cisco Systems CEO
- Dick Costolo, Twitter CEO
- Reed Hastings, NetFlix CEO

The nine companies represented at the dinner have a combined worth of USD938 billion.

Also invited:
- John Hennessy, president of Stanford University

Not invited:
- Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO
- Bill Gates, Microsoft founder
