Peter Reid kisses The Hand of God

On 22nd June 1986, Argentina played England in the quarter-finals of the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City.

In that match, Peter Reid was England's defensive midfielder, and was one of several players left trailing in Maradona's wake when he scored probably the greatest goal ever scored, the Goal of the Century. Héctor Enrique passed the ball to Maradona some ten metres inside his own half. Maradona then began his 60-metre, 10-second dash towards the English goal, passing five English outfield players – Beardsley, Reid, Butcher (twice) and Fenwick. Maradona finished the move by dribbling round Shilton to make the score 2–0 to Argentina.

4 minutes before that goal however, Maradone scored probably the most controversial goal ever scored, the Hand of God goal.

Recently, Reid bumped into Maradona while filming at the Argentina legend's new club in Dubai. Laughing and joking, he even kissed Maradona's hand that he used to punch the ball into the net 25 years earlier.

Reid also joked with Maradona that he wanted to see his face - because he had only seen his back during the infamous World Cup quarter final.

At the end of their encounter Maradona walks off and says to him over his shoulder "now you come catch me!"
