Highest price ever paid for a work of art: Cézanne's The Card Players [July 2011]

Here it is, the most expensive painting ever sold.

Painter: French Post-Impressionist artist Paul Cézanne
Title: The Card Players
Date painted: 1892-93
Type: Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 97 × 130 cm

Buyer: the royal family of Qatar
Seller: Greek shipping magnate George Embiricos (private collection)
Date sold: July 2011
Price: USD250 million (RM750 million)

This price beat the previous record by a considerable amount, which was USD156.8 (adjusted, equiv to RM470 million) for Jackson Pollock's "No. 5, 1948" in November 2006.

On a personal note, while it seems to require more skill to create than Pollock's painting, it still seems to be within reach of a secondary school's art class, no?
